This week we learned about the families of instruments. The students learned which instruments are in the strings, brass, woodwind, and percussion families. We listened to different people/bands playing music with these family of instruments too. The students then decided they wanted to form their own bands to create music using various instruments.

Our class read the book, "Squirrel's New Year's Resolution" by Pat Miller. We then discussed what a New Year's Resolution is and brainstormed a list of possible resolutions we could make. The students then worked on making and writing 2 New Year's Resolutions for 2017. Take a look at some of our work!
Our class has been learning about beat and rhythm in Music. We are using tapping sticks to create and follow a variety of rhythm patterns. Take a look at the photos below: Today we spent some time working with words. We reviewed 'word families' (rhyming words) such as an, at, it, etc. using word blocks to make word family towers and then wrote the words down in their families. We also, worked on making silly sentences using the word puzzle pieces. The students made sure they had a capital letter at the beginning of their sentence and a period at the end. They were able to be creative with the words in between! (One student wrote: A green apple fell on a bird.) We practised spelling our word wall words using letter tiles, wooden letters, alphabet magnets and transparent letters to build our words.
