For Media Literacy, our class explored food packaging and created our own cereal boxes. Take a look at some of our designs!
We learned about the different parts of a flower (roots, stem, leaves, flower) and what a flower needs to grow (air, food, sunlight, water, habitat).
We have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and observing it hands on through our own caterpillars. The students watched as the caterpillars ate lots of food to grown bigger and then built chrysalis' and then came out as butterflies. After the process was finished we had our butterfly release outside. Take a look at some of our photos.
Our class has been learning about Fractions in Math. We have been learning about a whole, halves, thirds and fourths also known as quarters. The students are able to divide pieces into equal parts and identify the type of fraction it is divided into. Our pizzeria closed in our drama center so the students wanted to make pizza's with our fraction knowledge. They cut and divided toppings into halves, thirds and fourths for their pizza's that we enjoyed eating afterwards. We even created our own paper pizza's that the students divided into equal parts.
The students enjoyed exploring the Museum of Nature Yesterday. They participated in a workshop about Billy's Natural Environment and learned the characteristics of beavers and how they build their lodges. Here are some photos from our trip:
Our class created our own dance routines to express a feeling (i.e. happy, sad, silly, etc.). We worked very hard at creating a dance with expressive movements, choosing music to show a particular feeling and ending with a tableau. The students then created a dance poster to advertise our dance showcase and performed for the Kindergarten students.
In Science, we have been learning about living things and locating major organs and parts of the human body that we use for our five senses and describe their function. We took the tracings of our bodies that we used to measure and created our human body with labelling for the organs and body parts.
The students are learning about the weight of objects using a pan balance (heavy/light). We also learned about capacity (How much a container can hold.) We used different containers to see how many cups it took to fill.
