A note was sent home today to explain our Music Project. The students have completed the design section for their musical instrument at school and are bringing it home to show you. They will need your help to build their musical instrument using recycled items. This project is due on Friday, January 27, 2017 so we can present it in class.
First graders have been studying "found sounds," music that is made by things that aren't actual instruments, but rather things you might find and/or assemble. We've watched many examples of found sound music, talked about the science behind how these instruments operate, and now it's our turn to create! Students will be designing their own instrument at home to bring to class next week. These instruments should be made using recycled items, have a well-planned design (completed in the musical instrument invention project booklet sent home today), creatively made, sturdy, and be able to make at least two musical sounds. Remember, first graders, to ask for your parents help with anything sharp or electric, and ask permission to use materials. I've linked some of the videos we've watched in class, as well as other ideas and projects that you might want to explore! No new WWW will be going home this week. We will be practising spelling all of our word wall words from the start of the year. Please check the Word Wall Word section to practise spelling all of these words at home with your child. Snuggle books will be going home again beginning Wednesday. If you find the books that are going home too easy/uninteresting/not enough variety, please use Raz kids and READ, READ, READ! Remember to document everytime your child reads in their Snuggle Book chart! |
